After a few months off, The Loup River Band & Street Choir are back at Lincoln’s world famous Zoo Bar for a night of country music with The Bellflowers. If you like a little two-stepping and waltzing with your beer, this is the night to come out.

OK, 5 of you may remember the murder ballad comp we did last year. That is a success by Lone Prairie Records standards so we are gonna make another comp this year. The theme is Heaven & Hell so write and record a song about Heaven, Hell, and/or any entity that you envision living in said places. This is also open to atheists: write a song about how you think an omnipotent, omniscient being who lives in an invisible kingdom in the sky is crazytalk. It all counts.

The murder ballad comp made it into plenty of end-of-the-year-best lists last year so this could be your big chance to wow the local press or your big chance to bust out your crappy cassette recorder and capture your, um, amazing composition. Either way, you win!

We accepted and included all submissions last year and I intend to do it again this year. Don’t be shy. Cowboy up. Record and submit!

A couple great shows this week:

Tonight’s show features The Favors in all their glam beauty.  If you like T Rex and 70’s Bowie, you will not want to miss them.  The Favors are playing with LPR’s own Loup River Band complete with new keyboardist Sarah and Screw, a band from Hastings I know nothing about - but if they are playing with the favors, they must be pretty good.

Sunday brings together the old style country of The Bellflowers (think Ray Price, Johnny Cash, and Hank Snow) and space country of Icarian Bird (imagine Pink Floyd as a country band).  This is an early show at Duffy’s so you can get home to bed before midnight!
